The Future of Eco-Friendly Wellness

Inside Cabinet Health’s Refillery Revolution

As consumer interest in sustainable and eco-friendly products continues to rise, companies are under increasing pressure to provide environmentally conscious solutions. Enter Cabinet Health™.

Founded in 2020, Cabinet Health introduced a range of over-the-counter (OTC) healthcare products designed to eliminate single-use plastics in medicine through a sustainable refill system. Their offerings match the active ingredients of leading brands, are made with FDA-certified components, and undergo third-party quality testing. Cabinet Health’s product range spans the Allergy, Cold & Flu, Digestive Health, Pain, and Sleep categories, all packaged in glass bottles and compostable refill pouches.

Cabinet Health™ has recently partnered with Target, becoming the first Target Zero approved medicine brand in select stores and online. This collaboration is set to transform consumer access to healthcare products by providing a broad, eco-friendly option for quality medications.

So how does Cabinet Health’s system work?

  1. Start with a prefilled glass bottle of medicine.
  2. Once the bottle is empty, buy a Compostable Refill Pouch, refill the glass bottle, and compost the pouch.
  3. Repeat the process, continually making eco-conscious choices.

While this process seems straightforward, the real challenge lies in educating the consumer so they can make informed purchasing decisions. Not only is Cabinet a newer brand, but it also has a lot to communicate between the product, the packaging, and how the system works. We think they are doing it well, so we examined how Cabinet Health™ addressed this challenge.

Brand Recognition

  • Logo: Prominently showcased at the top of the endcap display and on packaging sets the brand up for instant recognition. Add bonus points for such a simple and clean wordmark.
  • Brand Blocking by Product Category: Bright colors for each product category make it easy for customers to identify and differentiate between items on shelf.
  • Credibility & Accessibility: Partnering with Target boosts Cabinet Health’s credibility and expands its accessibility. Beyond its in-store and online presence, Cabinet Health is also redefining pharmacies with a prescription program that makes medications more affordable and accessible.

Messaging and Communications

  • Type of Support: At the top of the messaging hierarchy on pack are the type of relief and the name brand with the corresponding active ingredient. This quickly instills confidence in consumers by offering the same benefits of trusted brands at a better value.
  • Product Benefits: The PDP features a clear list of product benefits and symptoms the product relieves, making it easier for consumers to know which product is right for their needs.
  • Iconography: A clear visual representation of the glass bottle and refill process highlights key information, supported by copy that emphasizes the “complete refillable system.” This approach educates consumers about the process and encourages them to learn more, maximizing the benefits of Cabinet Health products.

Packaging Considerations

  • Outer Box: With a clean and approachable yet elevated overall aesthetic, the die cut window area to show the glass bottle is an efficient way to communicate the contents and set clear product expectations without sacrificing space or making the package appear crowded.
  • Glass Bottles: With snap lids that provide product and symptom information and can be fully removed for easy refilling, plus stackable bottles in various sizes for efficient storage, these glass bottles enhance the modern medicine cabinet with a stylish and functional design.
  • Refill Pouch: Product photography effectively showcases usage in a fun and simple way to convey multiple pieces of information. The rest of the package reinforces key information for easy shopping and recognition, while the tear-off section highlights “Refill” and “Compostable” icons to emphasize this pack type’s differentiators.

With the global sustainable packaging market projected to reach a market value of $423.56 billion by 2029, Cabinet Health is ahead of the game. How is your company meeting the consumer demand for eco-friendly solutions?
